Old Coptic Cairo, Coptic Museum, Museum of Civilization

Today we visit the oldest section of Cairo built upon the Babylon Fortress, an ancient Roman fortress, built around 30 BCE. Within its walls are the third century Saint Virgin Mary’s Coptic Orthodox Church, known as the Hanging Church, because its nave is suspended above a fortress gatehouse, and the Abu Serga Church built upon the spot where the Holy Family rested after their journey to Egypt. We learn about the Holy Egyptian Family of Isis, Osiris, and Horus.
