many protective guides

Day 16 - 1.16.jpg

Is Anubis, revered guide of souls into the afterlife, also watching over these travelers?

This scene attracted my attention because of the juxtaposition of museum patrons moving about and the stillness of the statue of Anubis, god of embalming and mummification, found in the tomb of Tutankhamun. He is one of the oldest of the Egyptian gods dating to the first dynasty around 3,100 BCE and was the first to embalm by wrapping the dismembered god Osiris, first born of earth and sky, in linen to restore his form.

This ancient Egyptian god, intriguingly, is also associated with the Christian patron saint of travelers, St. Christopher (250 CE), who is depicted in some older icons with a head like Anubis.

Not sure what happens after death but I gladly welcome good mentors, knowledgeable guides and engaging teachers during this lifetime.

Wishing you many protective guides this year.
